QUETTA: Iranian border guards fired on Saturday eight mortar shells into Pakistani territory of Panjgur, a district in Balochistan.

A senior official of Balochistan government confirmed Iran had violated Pakistani border.

“Eight mortars landed and exploded on an empty plot in Panjgur,” he said. “No loss of life has been reported.”

According to residents, the back-to-back explosions occurred in Nukar area of Panjgur.

“These mortars were fired from other side of the border,” they observed.

Two people were killed in a similar violation by Iranian forces a few months back, with frequent attacks in Mand, Awaran and Chagai continuing.

Pakistan has often raised the issue with the Iranian government but the latter categorically denies, saying it would target the terrorists disturbing Iranian peace whether they are in Iran or Pakistan.
