Suicide Blast in Zhob Injures Four Security Personnel
QUETTA: A suicide blast injured at least four security personnel at the gate of a military cantonment compound in Balochistan's Zhob district on Friday.
Earlier version received from the site was that a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the gate of the compound, a security official speaking on condition of anonymity told media. The intensity of the blast shattered window panes in nearby buildings and spread fear and panic among residents.
Sources later revealed that the incident took place in Balochistan’s Zhob district where a suicide bomber targeted a mosque during Friday prayers located inside cantonment area.
“A Pak army soldier performing guard duty stopped the attacker outside main gate of the mosque before he blew himself up,” Deputy Commissioner Zohb, Nazir Ahmed told the media.
Two security personnel were critically injured and are being treated in a military-run hospital, he said.
A heavy contingent of security forces' personnel reached the blast site and cordoned off the area.
Zhob is considered to be one of the sensitive districts of Balochistan since it borders with the country's volatile tribal belt. It is also considered to be a transit point for militants sneaking from neighbouring Afghanistan and the tribal belt of Pakistan.
