Model Town JIT report Baffles Imran Khan
In a strongly-worded criticism to the findings of the Model Town joint investigative team’s (JIT) report, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan said the JIT has given a clean chit to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and former provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah.
“It’s the height of injustice that Model Town JIT absolved Shahbaz Sharif and Rana Sanaullah,” Imran tweeted.
He added that this is a message to the police as repeats of such incidents can take place with impunity.
On Friday, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) announced countrywide protests against a Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) report on Model Town incident.
On June 17, 2014, at least 14 workers of Dr Tahirul Qadri’s party were killed and 90 were in injured in clashes with police in Model Town, Lahore.
A joint investigation team probing the deadly clashes held 10 police officers responsible, while giving a clean chit to the prime minister and the Punjab chief minister.
After the first inquiry team was rejected by the leadership of PAT, a new five-member JIT was formed, headed by CCPO Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema, AIG Discipline at CPO SSP Shehzad Akbar, DSP CIA Khalid Abubakar and one official each from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB).
