PTI's Back in the National Assembly - Shah Mehmood Qureshi
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced on Monday PTI's return to the National Assembly, a day after MQM and JUI-F withdrew their motions for de-seating the party.
Addressing the media after the conclusion of the party’s parliamentary meeting in Islamabad on Friday, Qureshi said, “Imran Khan will return to the National Assembly on Monday,” and added that the “PTI will play an active role as an opposition in the House.”
He stressed on the need for all political stakeholders to keep democratic traditions intact, but warned that any attempt to interfer Imran’s speech in the lower house will be responded with accordingly.
Referring to the party’s sit-ins after the 2013 general elections, he said, “We rightfully staged a protest for the sanctity of votes of the people and decided to bring an end to the protest after the judicial commission issued its verdict.”
Meanwhile, while commenting on MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s statements against the armed forces and Rangers, Qureshi said that the language Altaf used was inappropriate and should have been avoided.
On Thursday, MQM and JUI-F withdrew their motions seeking to de-seat PTI lawmakers for their absence from the lower house for more than 40 days.
Salman Khan Baloch and Naeema Kishwar Khan withdrew the motions on behalf of the MQM and JUI-F respectively.
Earlier, NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq urged MQM chief Altaf Hussain to ask his party to withdraw the motions.
