Fearing Agitation Saudi Foreign Minister Postpones His Visit to Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir’s postpones his official two-day visit to Pakistan, Foreign office in Islamabad said in a press statement on Sunday.
The recent execution of 48 people in Saudi Arabia to include a prominent Shia Cleric has flared masses sentiments across the world. Pakistan's population has a large share of shia commune and protests were anticipated in reaction to the event, resulting in the postponment of the FM's visit.
Earlier, he was arriving here in Pakistan on a two-day official visit. According to officials, the purpose of the visit was to consult Pakistan’s leadership over joining the anti-terrorism alliance. Saudi Arabia recently announced the formation of the 34-state Islamic military coalition to combat terrorism.
The sources said he had to take Pakistani leadership into confidence over Middle East situation and the Kingdom’s recently formed 34-member military alliance against terrorism.
