FIA to Address Merchant's Concerns who Denied his Statement of Altaf-RAW Association
ISLAMABAD: Interior minister Chaudhry Nisar directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to address businessman Sarfaraz Merchants' concerns regarding investigation into the allegations he levelled against Altaf Hussain’s links with an Indian spy agency.
Reports suggested Nisar directed FIA Director Inam Ghani to contact the London-based Merchant and address his concerns related to the probe, while treating him as a ‘respectable witness’.
Earlier during the day, the London-based businessman denied having issued statements regarding the MQM chief’s alleged links with India’s Research & Analysis Wing (RAW).
The FIA had contacted Mustafa Kamal and Merchant, seeking cooperation to probe allegations against the MQM leadership.
On March 1, the Karachi-based trader accused the party of involvement in money laundering, criminal activities and links with RAW.
Similar allegations were levelled by the former Karachi mayor, who has now launched his own political party.
Regarding his visit to Pakistan, Merchant, according to sources, reportedly said he would consult his legal advisers and decide before March 14.
