Supreme Court Grants to Hear Musharraf's Plea
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday accepted for hearing an appeal filed by former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf against the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) orders in the disqualification case.
A five-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali accepted the appeal filed against the PHC’s Appellate Tribunal for general election 2013 after initial hearing and adjourned the case indefinitely. Other members of the bench are Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rahman and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain.
Mr Musharraf had filed an appeal before the PHC over rejection of his nomination papers for the NA constituency NA-32 (Chitral).
The PHC issued orders on April 30, 2013, disqualifying him for lifetime from contesting election.
In its order, the PHC said that the general had twice abrogated the Constitution and arrested judges and members of their families so he could not participate in elections for the Senate and National Assembly.
