Mehbooba Mufti (PDP) Unwilling to take Oath as CM IHK
SRINAGAR: The Indian-Held Kashmir (IHK) waits to get their new Chief Minister (CM) even after four days whereas new anticipated CM refused to take oath.
Four days have gone by since CM Mufti Mohammed Sayeed died. Mr Sayeed died on Thursday morning and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti is running People's Democratic Party (PDP) as president.
Mehbooba Mufti is chosen as the next chief minister by the ruling coalition led by the party but is not willing to take oath immediately.
Sources added that the oath taking is unlikely even next week. A notification putting the northern state under governor's rule from Friday, in the absence of a government, is expected later today. This will be the second time in the last one year when governor's rule is imposed in the state.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi is visiting Srinagar tomorrow to offer condolences to Mr Sayeed's family. The Congress and the PDP have been allies in the past but the party is currently a BJP ally. Mr Sayeed headed a PDP-BJP government in the state.
