Village Council Official Gunned Down in Haripur
HARIPUR: A newly-elected chairman of a village council was gunned down in Haripur on Monday, police officials told media.
“Muhammad Taj alias Kaka Taj was on his way back from a relative’s funeral in the bordering village Pehdiyan of Punjab when unidentified gunmen opened fire at him,” the police said.
Taj was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The LG representative’s heirs said he was assassinated over a family feud.
Taj was elected chairman of his village council Ladha in union council Dingi on May 30 during local government polls in the province.
At least, eight people have been gunned down in Haripur alone following the violence-marred Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa local government elections.
