Ehtesab Commissions' Power to be Re-instated | PTI Chairman Directs KP Govt
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan Monday asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government to immediately withdraw Ehtesab Commission Amendment Order which limited the powers of provincial Ehtesab Commission.
In a statement on micro-blogging website Twitter, the PTI chief said that drafting of the amendment bill will be expedited to restore the original powers of Ehtesab Commission. PTI will never compromise on its core commitment of accountability, he further added.
He explained that a comprehensive amendment bill which will ensure and strengthen effective and independent accountability will now be tabled before KPK Assembly.
The controversial amendment order, under which the commission needed a permission from provincial government before arresting any lawmaker and public official over corruption charges, had resulted in resignation of Director General Ehtesab Commission Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Lt-General (r) Hamid Khan on February 10.
Hamid Khan said that PTI led KPK government was taking a U-turn over its anti-corruption policy. He had also shared his reservations in a letter to PTI chairman Imran Khan.
