Shabqadar Suicide Blast : TTP Takes Responsibility Avenging Qadri's Execution
MOHMAND AGENCY: At least thirteen people are reported dead on Monday to include two policemen when a suicide bomber tried to enter the building of a local court in Shabqadar tehsil of Mohmand Agency.
According to District Police Officer, a suicide bomber attempted to enter a district court when two security personnel intercepted him outside the court’s premises which prompted him to blow himself up. They fired upon him realizing his intentions opted him to detonate the bomb killing numbers in the vicinity and injuring around 27 people.
At the time of the explosion, the courts were crowded after a break over the weekend.
Some vehicles parked in the vicinity of the blast site caught fire. Efforts are being made to put the fire out.
Rescue teams and rescue forces rushed towards blast site. The affected area was cordoned off and nobody was allowed to enter the court premises.
Hours after the attack, TTP splinter group Jammatul Ahrar claimed responsibility, saying it is revenge for Mumtaz Qadri’s execution.
“We are responsible for the attack on the district court in Shabqadar,” said spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan in a statement.
“We have not killed civilians. The court and judges were our target as their practices are un-Islamic.”
About two weeks earlier, on Feb 18, Taliban gunmen killed nine paramilitary personnel in two separate attacks on check posts in Mohmand. Both earlier attacks were claimed by the Jamaat-ur-Ahrar faction of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a proscribed militant group.
