Government Officials Targeted | Bomb Kills 15, Scores Injured
PESHAWAR: At least fifteen people were reportedly dead with 25 others injured when a powerful bomb ripped through a passenger bus carrying government employees near Sunehri Masjid Road in Peshawar on Wednesday morning.
As per details, the bus was carrying over 40 government officials of Civil Secretariat from Mardan to Peshawar.
Fear and panic spread among residents after the blast.
SP Cantt. said the blast was caused by explosive material planted inside the bus.
"15 people were killed and 25 others were severely injured," added the police officer.
The bomb is suspected to be remote controlled and detonated from outside. It was planted under the rear seat of the bus.
Bomb Disposal Unit claimed that high quality explosives weighing 8 kilograms was used in the attack.
Rescue teams reached the attack site and started shifting injured to a nearby cantonment hospital. Injured are reportedly critical and more casualties are feared, due to lack of burns ward facility in the hospital.
Law enforcers have cordoned the area and launched a search operation. Emergency has been imposed in the nearby hospital to deal with the untoward situation.
This is not the first time that a civil secretariat bus has been targeted in Peshawar. Similar attacks in 2012 and 2013 killed at least 38 people.
Peshawar has seen scores of attacks on civilians as well as law enforcement personnel in the past. The city is also the home to the XI Corps, an administrative corp of the Pakistan Army which manages all military activity in KP and is currently engaged in a full-blown operation in North Waziristan.
