20 suspected militants killed in Tirah Valley
LANDI KOTAL: At least 20 suspected militants were killed and five others injured when gunship helicopters shelled militant hideouts in Tirah valley on Thursday.
Security officials said the air strikes were conducted in areas under the control of the banned Lashkar-e-Islam and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. The two groups have formed an alliance to fight security forces.
Meanwhile, 10 security personnel were injured when their convoy was targeted with a remote-controlled explosive device in Tirah valley, official sources said.
They said the convoy was moving to advance positions in Nangrosa area when a remote-controlled IED planted on the roadside ripped through one of its vehicles.
Officials said 10 soldiers were critically injured and their vehicle was destroyed. Troops cordoned off the area after the blast and combed the area for suspects.
The injured were airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Peshawar, officials said.
The LI claimed responsibility for the attack.
The injured troops were identified as Hawaldars Shahzad, Ramzan and Abu Bakkar, Sepoys Imran Mukhtar, Abdur Rehman, Altaf, Abdul Majeed, Fazal Rehman, Saddam and Muhammad Yasir.
