KARAK: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) Maulana Yousaf Shah has said that they still support the Afghan Taliban and are proud of their role.

He was speaking at the Tahaffuz-e-Islam convention here on Thursday. He said that the JUI-S leaders had always raised their voice against the western powers.

He said that the political parties like PML-N, PPP and PTI had no programme to provide protection to the religion and people.

Mr Shah said that only Islam could guarantee security to the society. He said that the other political parties could deceive the masses through slogans of secularism, socialism and communism, but these isms had no programme for the welfare of people.

The JUI-S leader said that very soon the religious forces would be united again for the security of Islam and against the western powers. He said that attacks on religious seminaries would not be tolerated. He asked the people to support the religious parties to implement the Islamic system in the country.

TRAINING CENTRE: A local councillor and students of the lone technical training centre of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) here have shown concern over the proposed closure of the centre and threatened to launch a protest movement against any such decision.

Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, district councillor Rafiullah Khattak, and workers and students of the centre, including Faizan, Saad Khan and Zahoor, said that the technical centre was established by OGDCL in the district in 2006 for transfer of skills to the local educated youth in the field of oil and gas exploration.

They said that this was the only training centre of OGDCL in the entire province and now its closure would render the employees jobless. They said that thousands of youth had completed their one year diploma in oil and gas exploration from the centre.

They demanded of the company to elevate the centre to the college level and start a three-year diploma course because the district would need more skilled workers due to the ongoing oil and gas exploration.
