CHINIOT/LAHORE: A team of the Counter-Terrorism Department arrested JUI-F leader and former MPA Mufti Kifayatullah for allegedly making a hate speech here late on Wednesday night.

Mr Kifayatullah had come here from Mansehra to attend the ‘Istehkam Pakistan Conference’ convened by Maulana Ilyas Chinioti, a PML-N MPA.

Sources said the CTD police station in Faisalabad had registered a case against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act for speaking against state institutions and praising terrorists.

The sources said that Mr Kifayatullah had criticised Zarb-e-Azb operation and allegedly glorified Malik Ishaq, a leader of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi killed recently in a police encounter, to stir up sectarian hatred. He also raised slogans against the state institutions.
