No Government Remains in Power Forever, Assault would Not be Spared - PTI Chairman

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan gave out a stern warning to the Punjab police should any misconduct comes forth towards his party workers during the upcoming government elections in the province.

“I have come here to tell policemen that no government remains in power forever,” he said while addressing a press conference in Lahore on Thursday. “Those policemen who are assaulting our workers will not be spared when PTI comes to power in Punjab,” he added.

Further, the PTI chief flayed the Punjab government over what he termed was its patronisation of criminals and said the whole nation watched the killing of innocent people in Lahore’s Model town last year; yet, nothing happened. “They have heavily politicised the police and use force against political opponents to win elections.”

Imran also called on the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to deploy Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel on “at least sensitive polling stations” across the province.

The PTI chief once again accused other political parties of teaming up and providing each other a cover against accountability. “Accountability is another name for democracy but as soon as the process of accountability of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) started, all corrupt politicians started a hue and cry,” he said.

He said when his party ministers and their relatives were being rounded up by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (K-P) accountability body, no one said a word but as soon as the same institution arrested an ex-minister of the Awami National Party (ANP), every politician jumped into action and cried ‘political victimisation’.

“In this country, people like Rana Sanaullah, who is a murder accused, can become law minister,” Imran lamented, adding, “This is a union of looters which gathers together when there is a threat to their looted money.”

In response to a question, the PTI chief said it was his belief that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) “cannot win elections through fair means”.

He claimed his party could not stop rigging in the NA-122 by-poll held recently, accusing the ruling party of committing “technical rigging”.

“Although we tried to stop the rigging, the PML-N still managed to do it through technical means. However, we will expose them,” he said, adding his party would bring facts before the people which will badly expose the rigging tactics of the ruling party.
