FAISALABAD: A PML-N activist was killed with three others injured in a clash with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf workers amid tensions of LG Polls on Monday in Dijkot.

PTI candidate for union council-145, Mian Khalid Mahmood, defeated his nephew Qasim Farooq, son of MNA Mian Farooq, in Dijkot. The situation is tense in the area as Qasim’s defeat is considered a major electoral upset.

Qasim was also interested in contesting for the district council chairman slot.

On Monday, son of PTI councilor-elect Rasheed Ahmed and his supporters had a scuffle with Ishfaq Ahmed, a relative of Farooq, and his friends. The latter called Farooq’s family members and others for help.

Locals said gunmen of Farooq family allegedly tortured the PTI workers and opened fire. A bullet hit a man identified as Mushtaq, 55, who breathed his last on the spot. The guards managed their escape.

Qasim Farooq alleged that the PTI men killed his relative Mushtaq.

The PML-N supporters appeared on Dijkot Chowk along with the body of Mushtaq, blocked traffic by setting tyres on fire and also forced the transporters of nearby bus stand to suspend their work.

Talking to reporters, the protesters said the PML-N leaders had been showing restraint whereas PTI men were allegedly resorting to violence.

Police said the issue had nothing to do with politics as both sides had a land dispute. Police have registered a case against Rasheed, his three sons and 10 others.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Adnan, who sustained bullet injuries when PMLN activists opened fire at a PTI rally on Sunday on Korianwala bridge, breathed his last at intensive care unit of the Allied Hospital on Monday.

Six people had sustained injuries in the firing and two of them Adnan and Mubashir succumbed to their wounds.

The PTI said the deceased were their activists, however, the PML-N denied the claim, saying that both were passers-by.

D-Type Colony police registered a case under sections of ATA and PPC with arrest of three people.
