CTD Raids Lahore Railway Station on News of Bomb in Rail Cart
LAHORE: A Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police team on Monday raided a train minutes before its departure at the Lahore Railway Station resulting in panic.
The raid was conducted on the disclosure of a suspect in custody, a senior railway police officer told media.
The team first asked all the passengers to vacate the coach of the Rawalpindi-bound rail car. “This move led to rumours that there was some explosive material in the train,” said the officer who wished not to be named.
The CTD team took the suspect to the coach, remained there for some time and later left the station, said the officer while dispelling the impression of bomb hoax.
A CTD spokesman said that the raid was conducted after getting information from the under-interrogation suspect about the presence of bomb in the train.
He said CTD headquarter operation wing had conducted the raid with the assistance of Lahore chapter.
He said the team asked the passengers to vacate the coach and bomb disposal squad thoroughly searched the rail and nothing was recovered.
