Director Ahsan Akhtar Naz Laid to Rest
LAHORE: Funeral prayers for former Punjab University (PU) Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) director Ahsan Akhtar Naz were offered at the New Campus Jogging Track following the Friday congregation.
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Liaquat Baloch led the prayers, attended by a large number of journalists, students and teachers. Naz was then laid to rest at the PU graveyard.
Those attending the prayers included Vice Chancellor Mujahid Kamran; Naz’s colleagues Mehdi Hasan, Shafiq Jalandhari and Mujahid Mansoori; media people Mujeebur Rehman Shami, Salman Ghani, Ataur Rehman, Orya Maqbool Jan, Sajjad Mir, Najam Wali Khan, Naveed Chaudhry and Ajmal Jami; and politicians Farid Paracha, Ameerul Azeem, Raja Munawwar, Chaudhry Akram and Ejaz Chaudhry.
In a condolence message, Mujahid Kamran said that Naz’s services for teaching of journalism would always be remembered. “Many of his students are now part of media organisations. Participation of thousands of people in the funeral prayers is a proof of their regard for him,” the vice chancellor said.
Quran khwani for the deceased will be held at New Campus Colony’s mosque in E Block at 3:30pm on Saturday (today).
Naz, 56, had been a diabetic. He passed away at Shaikh Zayed Hospital on Saturday night. He is survived by his wife, two sons and as many daughters. He had worked at the ICS for 26 years, including four years as its director. He had also worked earlier as a journalist and public relations officer for the PU and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET). Naz had authored several books on journalism.
