#LahoreBlast: TTP 'Jamaat ul Ahrar' Claims Killing 72 Injured Scores, Targeted Christians on Easter Holiday
LAHORE: Tehreek e Taliban faction (TTP) 'Jamaat ul Ahrar' has claimed responsibility to the suicide attack that hit the Gulshan Iqbal Park, near Moon Market, Allama Iqbal Town on Sunday killing 72 people with over 300 injured to include mostly Women and children.
The blast occured just outside the exit gate and a few feet (metres) away from the children’s play area. Eye witnesses said there were pools of blood and scattered body parts at the site of the blast.
Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Salman Rafique confirmed the death toll. Edhi sources add that over 200 are injured. According to Rescue sources, nearly 300 injured people were shifted to nearby hospitals.
Being Easter celebrations and a public holiday, there was a rush of visitors in the park. Reports suggest that among the dead most of them were Christians mostly children.
TTP's Jamaat ul Ahrar group's spokesmen Ahsanullah Ahsan claimed responsibility to the attack claiming that their target was the christian commune celebrating easter. They warned the government that they have entered Lahore and there's nothing the government can do against them.
Troops and personnel of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) reached the scene to carry out the rescue work and cordon off the area. CTD has claimed to have arrested around 30 suspects involved in the blast.
Hospital reports suggest scores of the injured persons, including women and children, are said to be in critical condition. All public hospitals in the city have been placed on emergency.
According to security sources, upper body of the suspected bomber was still intact and that he could be easily identified.
The Punjab government announced three days of mourning.
