Panama Leaks: Opposition Parties Commend Tahmina Durrani for her Stance
LAHORE: Opposition parties on Thursday lauded Chief Minister's wife Tahmina Durrani's for her Tweets following Panama Papers Leak demanding the funds to be brought back. She had also dismissed reports linking her to some offshore companies.
In a letter sent to Durrani on Thursday, Leader of the Opposition in the Provincial Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, parliamentary and deputy parliamentary leaders from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Pakistan Peoples Party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and the Jamaat-e-Islami said the joint opposition in the Punjab Assembly appreciated her “bold stance” urging the Sharif family as well as other politicians to bring money back to the country.
“The joint opposition would highly appreciate your moral and consistence stance and support in this regard in the coming days,” the letter reads.
It urges Durrani to join the opposition in their struggle to eradicate corruption from the country.
“Your support will go a long way and would be pivotal,” it adds.
On Wednesday, the opposition had tried to move an out-of-turn resolution to condemn the commission announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to investigate allegations of tax evasion and kickbacks. The resolution had also called for the prime minister’s resignation. The draft was amended in favour of the prime minister’s judicial commission announcement after Opposition members staged a walkout.
