Ordinance issued to form a Judicial Commission to investigate Rigging
ISLAMABAD: An ordinance is issued to form a Judicial Commission by the President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday to investigate allegations of rigging in the 2013 general elections. The demand was made by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during the party's 126-day-long sit-in at Islamabad last year.
PTI's return to the National Assembly depends upon the formation of the commission to investigate rigging allegations.
After Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif earlier this week gave the go ahead to a draft agreement for setting up the judicial commission, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced the signing of an agreement between the PTI and PML-N for the formation of the aforementioned.
According to the signed agreement, the judicial commission will investigate the matter preferably within 45 days of its making.
Jehangir Tareen represented the PTI in talks, while Ishaq Dar represented the government. After both parties assented to the points of the agreement, the government gave consent for the formation of the judicial commission.
