SARGODHA: Despite administration of polio drops, two polio cases have been reported in Shahpur tehsil’s Wadhi village, about 25 kilometres from the city.

Muhammad Akram, a labourer, told reporters that his two sons had contracted polio virus though they were administered drops by the health department and officials issued cards to him. He alleged that health officials had taken back one of the cards to cover up their “malpractice”.

Akram said doctors were demanding Rs800,000 for treatment of his sons and he had no means to arrange the amount. He further alleged that some officials were asking him to return the other card as well.

The EDO health was not available for comments while an official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, claimed that the polio vaccine had proven efficacy and it was not possible for the children covered under the campaigns to contract virus.
