Serial Killer Hanged in Vihari
Jail authorities on Tuesday hanged a murder convict in Vihari District Jail, Media reported.
Munir Hussain Ali, accused of being a serial killer was handed death sentence for murdering his niece and nephew over a land dispute in 2000. Stern security measures were observed at the Vihari jail.
On April 22, fifteen convicted murderers were hanged, the largest number of executions in a day since an unofficial moratorium on the death penalty was lifted in December last year.
Over 100 death row convicts have been executed since December, media reports suggest.
Human rights groups say many convictions in Pakistan are highly unreliable. The country’s antiquated criminal justice system barely functions, torture has often been used to extract confessions and police are rarely trained in investigation.
