Hanging of a Rape and Homicide Convict in Vehari

Multan: A death-row convict guilty of raping and killing a minor was hanged in Vehari on Wednesday.

Police said Abdul Ghafoor had killed seven-year-old Kausar in 1991.

They said Ghafoor, 57, was from Mohabbatpur. They said he had abducted the girl from her house and taken her to Kahror Pakka.

They said Ghafoor had raped her and then killed her.

They said her parents had lodged a complaint against him. They said he had been arrested on June 20, 1991.

Ghafoor had been sentenced to death by a Lodhran district and sessions judge on April 21, 1993.

The man filed multiple appeals to overturn the conviction.

His appeals were rejected by Lahore High Court, the Supreme Court, the Federal Shariat Court and the president.

His death warrants had been issued on April 22, 2015. He was hanged at 5am and his body was handed over to his brother for burial after the hanging.
