JUI chief meets MQM leaders at Nine Zero
Karachi:Jamat-e-Ulama-Islam (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman meets with leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) today at Nine Zero, the MQM headquarters.
The talks were reportedly aimed at persuading the MQM parliamentarian leaders to withdraw their resignations. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asked the JUI chief to conduct said talks.
MQM, which resigned from parliament and Sindh Assembly on August 12, was criticized for orchestrating the move to derail the Karachi operation – a rangers-led operation targeting criminal activity. MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi denied such accusations on Monday, a day before the JUI chief was scheduled to arrive. Rizvi also stated that, contrary to accusations, the MQM wanted the operation to continue.
Speaking to a private media channel, Haider Rizvi said the MQM merely wanted the operation to be “brought under the constitutional framework”.
