Local Government Election May Not be Transparent in Sindh - Dr Arif Alvi
SUKKUR: Dr Arif Alvi, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Sindh organiser, has expressed fears regarding the upcoming local government election in Sindh saying it “may not be transparent since returning officers are not impartial”.
He said at a press conference at the press club here on Sunday that people of Sindh did not get any benefits from the alliance between PPP and MQM and now the true faces of the former allies stood unveiled before people.
When MQM encountered difficult situation, PPP leaders turned their backs on the allies with whom they had shared power for their vested interests, he said.
He alleged the Sindh government was engaged in vengeful activities and was using government machinery against PTI. Brother of PTI candidate Zahid Mahar in Khairpur had been arrested by anti-corruption sleuths in an apparent move to pressurise the candidate, he said. He said the candidates associated with PPP did not face any problems and nomination papers of many candidates had been accepted despite their being defaulters.
Despite that, he claimed, change was about to happen in the country and the tsunami of PTI was ready to sweep PPP out of Sindh.
PTI office-bearers Iftikhar Soomro, Agha Saifullah Khan Pathan, Agha Arsalan Khan Pathan, Hafiz Rafiq Ahmed Soomro and others accompanied their leader at the press conference.
