Dr Asim Case: Still Negotiating Medical Grounds
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday sought the copy of an apex court order regarding the treatment of Dr Asim Hussain for its guidance.
Headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, the SHC bench was hearing the petition filed by Dr Zareen Akhtar, wife of Dr Asim, who sought medical facilities for her husband.
During the hearing on Thursday, the court observed that the issue of Dr Asim’s treatment was taken up by the Supreme Court and decided a day earlier; therefore, they would like to have the copy of the order for its guidance.
The petitioner’s counsel stated that he would place a copy of the apex court order on the next hearing. He requested the court to direct respondents to submit all test reports of Dr Asim which were conducted by the Rangers.
Additional attorney general Salman Talibuddin said that he would take instructions from Rangers as to whether any test of Dr Asim was conducted.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till Nov 5.
Dr Asim is currently in Rangers custody for 90 days under Section 11 EEEE of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, for his alleged involvement in corruption and offences related to terrorism.
The Rangers had told the ATC that they had credible information about Dr Asim’s involvement in offences falling within the ambit of the antiterrorism laws.
It is pertinent to mention here that on Oct 9, the Supreme Court disposed of a petition seeking transfer of Dr Asim to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases for treatment.
The apex court gave its judgment after a submission of a seven-member team of doctors who stated that Dr Asim did not require hospitalisation as they did not find any abnormality with him.
