Khairpur Incident Perpetrators Arrested for Killing PML-F Activist
RANIPUR: Police claimed to have apprehended four accused, including a government official, of Khairpur tragedy in which 12 people were killed in an armed clash between two groups during polling for first phase of Local Bodies elections on October 31.
SSP Khairpur Pir Muhammad Shah said police also seized eight Kalashnikovs, two hand grenades and other sophisticated weapons from the possession of the accused of Waryo Wahan incident.
The police officer went on to say that more than 20 cases are registered against the accused in different police stations.
The arrested government official had arrived Waryo Wahan from Gilgit two days prior to the incident, he added.
According to reports, a small scuffle between Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) during the elections broke into a violent clash.
A local police official Pir Muhammad Shah told AFP on the day, “The two groups belonging to the PPP, which rules Sindh province, and the PML-F, headed by a famous spiritual leader Pir Sahab Pagara, clashed with each other just an hour before the end of polling time.”
