Karachi Rangers Targeted, Three Personnel Killed on Spot, One Succumbed to Injuries in Hospital
KARACHI: Three paramilitary soldiers were killed and one injured on Friday when two unidentified assailants riding a motorbike opened fire at a Rangers checkpost in Karachi's Baldia Town locality, officials confirmed.
The law-enforcement personnel are said to be on their on routine duty outside a mosque , when three motorcycle with gun-wielding men opened fire at the checkpost after Friday prayers.
Rangers Director General Major General Bilal Akbar reached the scene and said that the assailants wanted to attack a nearby mosque but on seeing Rangers security, resorted to firing at the personnel.
He said four security personnel were on board a vehicle, while two each were on board two motorcycles at the time of the attack.
Three of the soldier died on the spot while the one rushed to the hospital has been reported to have succumbed to his wounds.
The Rangers DG vowed to apprehend those behind the attack.
The area has been sealed by security forces and a search operation is currently underway.
Rangers is currently spearheading a grand operation against criminal elements in Karachi.
