KARACHI: An FIR was registered late on Thursday against nine leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to include Haider Abbas Rizvi, Aamir Khan and Farooq Sattar for violating the loudspeaker act, Section 144 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the FIR, workers of the MQM gathered on Thursday at Karachi’s MA Jinnah Road to protest against the government, during which the act was violated as party leaders made speeches.

The case was registered at Soldier Bazaar police station.

MQM leaders and workers took to the streets after the Rabita Committee announced they will gather in front of the Rangers Headquarters.

Party leaders claimed more than 100 of their workers were arrested by the paramilitary force in the last four days, including Wednesday’s raids at the party’s Korangi, Hijrat Colony and Shah Faisal Colony sector offices.
