The Rangers personnel brought the blindfolded suspects to the anti-terrorism court amid tight security.

They produced the suspects before ATC and submitted that in exercise of power conferred by the provincial government on Nov 9, 2013, they detained the suspects upon receiving credible information about their involvement in offences relating to target killing and terrorist activities punishable under the Anti-terrorism Act, 1997.

Therefore, they said that detainees were placed under preventive detention for three months under Section 11EEEE (1) and in compliance of Section 11EEEE (3) of ATA they were produced along with copies of notification, detention orders and jail warrants for the court’s information.

After establishing the identity of the suspects, the court asked the Rangers to keep them in their custody.

Meanwhile, the police presented 26 MQM activists including convicted murderer Faisal Mota and Ubaid K-2 before the ATC and requested their remand for the purpose of questioning.

The court handed over the 26 men to police on a physical remand of 14-15 days.

A heavy contingent of Rangers raided Nine Zero, the headquarters of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), in Karachi's Azizabad neighbourhood on Wednesday morning, prompting a protest by party activists and a subsequent call for a day of "peaceful mourning" across the country.

A number of party workers, including member of MQM's Rabita Committee Amir Khan, were detained during the raid.
