"Altaf is a Threat with No consideration for the Nation", Two More MQM Leaders join Mustafa Kamal Party
KARACHI: MQM leader Wassem Aftab and MPA Iftikhar Alam on Thursday announced joining the three-member party of Mustafa Kamal, the ex-mayor of Karachi during a press conference from Kamal's residence in Karachi.
He, mostly, reiterated what Mustafa Kamal addressed a few days back. "Unware of the situation we were part of the MQM, upon knowing the facts we parted ways", says Aftab Alam.
"We ain't RAW, just misled and taken for a ride. Those left behind are unable to decide due fear; fearing their lives", said Alam.
He said, “We belonged to a community that represented literate people of the country once, but today, MQM workers have become a sign of fear and bad reputation with people walking away.” Aftab said.
“Many children lost their future, women widowed and several others to have left this country with the label of terrorism.”
“It was time to think, to ponder upon the fact that the man we worked so tirelessly for and even sacrificed their lives, was actually at the forefront of letting this nation down,” Aftab said in an apparent reference to MQM supremo Altaf Hussain.
MPA Iftikhar Alam announced his resignation from MQM as well as from his provincial assembly seat.
“I had to pick one of the two options, to become a part of wrongdoings in the party or distance myself from them. It is time to rid of the politics of targeted killings and raise our voice against it from this new platform. We are here on a one point agenda to make this country’s foundations strong,” he added.
The lawmaker urged MQM activists to become a part of the newly-formed party or part ways from MQM. “It seems that Altaf Hussain still needs dead bodies as he never cared for his workers who were at the forefront against all hardships. It is need of the hour for all those people realising wrongdoings inside MQM, become a part of this new organisation or simply part ways from MQM.”
The newly joined members to Mustafa Kamal's camp said that Afltaf remains a threat with no consideration for the nation, as anything and everything done in the Party is to his desires/mood swings, and that can change overnight. Workers are humiliated on a regular basis for chanting slogans in his favor and as well for listening intently to his speech. If slogan are in his favor, during his speech, it riles him as he considers it as an interruption. If the workers are listening quietly then he considered it disrespectful not to have expressed their views.
Earlier this week, former MQM minister Dr Sagheer Ahmad became the third member of the party, yet to be named, founded by Mustafa Kamal after his dramatic return to the politics in Sindh capital.
In 2005, Ahmed was elected as an MPA for the first time in the constituency in the by-elections on December 10 after the seat was vacated by the then MQM leader Mustafa Kamal following the latter’s election as the mayor of Karachi.
He had remained associated with the MQM for 28 years and was elected to the provincial assembly seat from PS-117 in 2008 and 2013 as well.
Ahmed had resigned from the party in 1999 too over differences with its policies. Back then, he had said the MQM had lost its direction by neglecting the struggle for Mohajirs’ rights and participating in electoral politics.
Aftab, who had headed the first Karachi Tanzeemi Committee and All-Pakistan Mohajir Qaumi Movement, has been away from limelight after the committee was disbanded.
Iftikhar Alam, who is member of the Sindh Assembly from Azizabad, was also welcomed by Kamal at the start of the press conference.
Iftikhar Alam said: “Hundreds have sacrificed their lives, hundreds yet live in exile.
He was fielded by the MQM for PS-106 constituency of Karachi’s Azizbabad area where the party headqauerters Nine Zero is located.
