KARACHI: Former mayor Karachi and Pak Sar Zameen Party (PSP) leader Mustafa Kamal demanded on Thursday that the government should ban his former party Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) for allegedly having links with the Indian spy agency RAW.

Speaking at a press conference here, he said Britain's former deputy head of Mission in Karachi, Shaharyar Khan Niazi has also claimed MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s links with the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

Niazi had claimed that Altaf Hussain voluntarily told the British government that he worked for the RAW.

Shaharyar Khan Niazi worked for the British High Commission in Karachi for over a decade but importantly he remained at the heart of the policymaking as far Britain’s dealing with the MQM was concerned during the most crucial period – from 2010 until 2013 – after he was promoted to the position of Deputy Head of Mission.

In an interview for Local News Channel last week after quitting his post in the middle of 2013, Shahryar Khan Niazi revealed that Altaf Hussain confessed to his involvement with RAW during a high-profile diplomatic meeting in late 2011/early 2012. Niazi claimed that the British government and Scotland Yard had evidence that a written agreement existed between the MQM and the Indian premier spy agency RAW.

“It has reached limits, a British diplomat is talking on the issue in Pakistan… yet they [MQM leaders] ask for evidences,” said the former blue-eyed-boy of MQM in today's press conference.

“It’s about time that the state should adopt a clear stance [on the issue]… the government of Pakistan should ban such parties if it has evidences,” he added.

The PSP leader further said the government should either take a stand on it or come forward and term it all lies. He said the state institutions must take a solid stance on the matter.

Addressing MQM stalwart Dr Farooq Sattar, Kamal said the former should listen to tone of his party chief instead of blaming the PSP leaders for using foul language.

“Respecting others and getting respected in return is in one’s own hands… do not make the mistake by taking us lightly,” he said.

The former Karachi mayor went on to say that ‘Farooq bhai’ knows everything and he is an ‘agent of the Indian agent.’

He said Sattar however cannot be fully blamed as he was an innocent man and was only doing his job.
