SHO Preedy Dead, Targetted at Korangi Road
Karachi: A police officer was targetted in his vehicle on korangi road at Karachi, taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his wounds on Thursday morning, media reported.
The police officer identified as Station House Officer (SHO) Aijaz Khwaja, Preedi Police Station, was in his car dressed in plain clothes when he was severly injured as gunmen fired at him to be rushed to Jinnah hospital. Dr Seemi Jamali of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) declared his death stating the SHO was shot in the face.
DIG south Dr Jamil said the police is investigating the murder of the SHO from two angles; whether he was handling high profile cases or whether he had some sort of friction with any organisation.
It has been heard that the deceased was involved in major crack down cases against MQM, to include a recent raid making arrest of security company officials renting out their weapon at a price.
Three officials from Preedy Police Station have been targeted in the past. Two SHOs Ghazanfar Kazmi and Agha Asad were killed in 2013 and 2014 whereas Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nawaz Ranjha was targeted in 2010.
According to a five-month report released in February, at least 79 police officers have been killed so far in the Karachi targeted operation.
The targeted operation started in Karachi after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited the metropolitan in September in a bid to devise a strategy to curb violence.
