LAHORE: Waqar Younis resigned from the post of head coach of national cricket team on Monday.

The news came in hours after media highlighted Waqar saying that he was being portrayed as a 'Villain'. He would not resign on his own, unless the board asks him to do so.

Addressing the press conference in Lahore, Waqar said: “I am resigning as head coach of Pakistan’s team with heavy heart”.

This was contrary to what he uttered earlier. Has the board pressured him? Only he could clear the air.

Younis said that he served Pakistan for 19 months with complete honesty and dedication.

“I want to thank everyone with whom I have worked honestly. I tried my best to help all the players become a better version of themselves.”

“I request the players, former and current, to take care of Pakistan cricket. My services are always available for the country”, Waqar said.

He said that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was looking for scapegoats after the team’s dismal performance in World Twenty20.

“I appeal to former cricketers not to undermine my services for the country,” he said.

He also urged the cricket board to spend his outstanding dues of Rs5 to Rs6 million on improving domestic cricket infrastructure.

Shahid Afridi quitted as captain Twenty20 on Sunday.
