Foreign secretary Pakistan meets acting administrator USAID
WASHINGTON DC: Foreign Secretary Pakistan Aizaz Chaudhry in a meeting with Acting Administrator of US Agency for International Development (USAID) Alfonso Lenhardt on Thursday expressed appreciation for United States' support in mega hydro-electric projects for energy generation.
Lenhardt renewed the United States' commitment to help Pakistan complete the current Diamer-Bhasha, Dasu, and Gomal Zam projects.
The two reviewed the state of economic collaboration and USAID's assistance in projects in Pakistan.
The Foreign Secretary expressed deep appreciation for America's cooperation, particularly in the economic and social sectors.
In this regard, he also appreciated the support in completing the mega hydal-power projects.
Chaudhry also stressed the desirability for more “on budget” support and need for greater coordination and synergy in project implementation between USAID and the Pakistani government.
Acting Administrator Lenhardt renewed the United States' commitment to help Pakistan in overcoming the energy crisis and appreciated the economic reforms undertaken by the state.
Both sides exchanged views on optimally utilising USAID's funding for projects in Pakistan, which would result in macro-economic stability in Pakistan.
Mr Lenhardt said that the US would work closely with all stakeholders on projects which could lead to sustainable development of Pakistan.
The foreign secretary also thanked the US for its timely commitment to help Pakistan with the return and rehabilitation of temporarily dislocated people in North Waziristan.
Terming the US assistance as an investment for the future of Pakistan-US relationship, Chaudhry particularly appreciated USAID projects in the energy sector and road infrastructure.
The foreign secretary and the acting administrator reviewed progress in the ongoing hydro-electric and thermal power projects supported by USAID.
Chaudhry stressed that large signature projects could be important symbols of the comfort and relief that Pakistan-US partnership has brought to the people of Pakistan.
