Israel Airstrike Killing High Ranking Hezbullah Official Questioned Russia's Allegiance

Israel jet planes on Sunday bombarded the Syrian capital city of Damascus killing a high ranking member of Hezbollah, questioned the Russian air defense system deployed to protect the syrian air space.

According to local media reports, Samir Qantar was killed during the Israeli raid which targeted his home in the city of Jaramana located 10 kilometers from the capital in the Rif Dimashq governorate early on Sunday.

Following the attack, Qantar’s brother on Sunday confirmed Samir's martyrdom without giving more details about his death on his Facebook page.

"With pride we mourn the martyrdom of the leader Samir Qantar and we are honored to join families of martyrs," Bassam Qantar said on his Facebook page.

Lebanon's Hezbollah movement second the news Sunday that an Israeli raid on a residential building in the district of Jaramana in Damascus has killed Qantar.

The Syrian government has issued a statement condemning the Israeli air raid, which killed Samir Qantar and a number of Syrian citizens.

Qantar was released from an Israeli prison during a prisoner swap between Hezbollah and Israel in 2008 after serving 29 years in detention.

The airstrike also left ten Syrian nationals dead, injuring a number of other civilians.

Following the attack, the media was bombarded by critisicm regarding the Russian claim of protecting Syrian airspace with their new defense system S-300 and S-400. The air defense system, said to be state of the art, yet Israel Jets penetrated it bombing residential area bringing civilian casualties.

Russian's allegiance to the Lebanese movement, fighting ISIS, was questioned as well. Russia is avoiding a direct conflict with the counrties though claiming to be a party to Assad's regime, allegedly fighting ISIS in the country. The only other two countries to have come forth in assisting Basharul Assad's regime are Lebanon and Iran.
